Evelyn Rivera

Director of Membership

Evelyn Rivera is Director of Membership at the Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) where she is responsible for membership cultivation and engagement through targeted events and fundraising opportunities. Prior to joining ABFE, Ms. Rivera was Corporate Relations and Special Events Manager at the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies (FPWA) where her efforts increased new donor membership and funding by 25 percent.

Ms. Rivera held the position of Special Events Manager for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club where she managed fundraising events. Ms. Rivera briefly ran her own public relations consultancy providing PR, marketing and logistics services to small businesses and was formerly the Marketing Director for Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHS) New York City’s premier housing service whose mission is to revitalize under-served neighborhoods by providing affordable housing and homeownership education.

She also held the position of Communications Director for one of Harlem’s famed cultural institutions, the Harlem YMCA, bringing awareness to the facility through corporate and community partnerships, media outreach and a host of special events. She initiated the coordination of the Harlem YMCA annual community breakfast which involved a host of community leaders, business professionals and elected officials. In addition, Ms. Rivera played in integral role in organizing the annual “National Salute to Black Achievers in Industry” award gala which raised over $800,000 for the Harlem YMCA and its programs. Ms. Rivera has also worked in corporate communications at Merrill Lynch coordinating communications efforts for senior level executives in a variety of investment divisions.

Ms. Rivera holds both a BA and MA in Communication Arts. She also holds certification from the Center for Creative Leadership in Maximizing Your Leadership Potential as well as CMP certification in Virtual Meeting and Event Management from The Event Leadership Institute. She has volunteered with New York Women in Communications and Dress for Success and is a member of Step-Up Women’s Network and the Apollo Theatre Young Patrons Committee. Born and raised in Manhattan, Ms. Rivera currently resides in the Bronx.
