President, Health Foundation for Western & Central New York

The Organization
The Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, an independent private foundation dedicated to improving the health and health care of the people and communities of Western and Central New York, seeks its next president. Founded in 2002, the Foundation has three focus areas: 1) improving the health and health care of children birth to age five who are impacted by poverty; 2) improving the health and health care of vulnerable older adults; and 3) ensuring that communities across the region have the capacity to address their health needs effectively. Since 2004, the Foundation has invested over $27 million in programmatic efforts across these three focus areas. The Foundation’s work has helped improve health and health care along numerous fronts including children’s oral health, maternal and child health, falls prevention and care transitions for older adults, health leadership across the region, and the health safety net in communities.

Position Overview
The Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, an independent private foundation dedicated to improving the health and health care of the people and communities of Western and Central New York, seeks its next president. Founded in 2002, the Foundation has three focus areas: 1) improving the health and health care of children birth to age five who are impacted by poverty; 2) improving the health and health care of vulnerable older adults; and 3) ensuring that communities across the region have the capacity to address their health needs effectively. The Foundation’s work has helped improve health and health care along numerous fronts including children’s oral health, maternal and child health, falls prevention and care transitions for older adults, health leadership across the region, and the health safety net in communities.

The position calls for a creative leader with proven strategic and organizational leadership ability, intellectual breadth, and an entrepreneurial spirit. This is an outstanding opportunity to provide vision and leadership to a significant regional foundation at a time of profound change and opportunity in U.S. health care. Stature in and broad knowledge of the public health field and philanthropy is strongly preferred. Candidates must bring a track record of successfully addressing on-the-ground problems and issues in public health. High integrity, strong communication skills, proven team leadership and management ability, and deep respect for the organizations and people the Foundation supports are also required.

The president reports to a supportive twenty-member board of directors and oversees a staff of eleven with a 2016 operating budget of $1.5 million. The Foundation manages assets of $112 million and 2016 projected grant making of $3.75 million.
