Black Family Philanthropy
A Legacy WE Create
From sou-sou savings clubs to Madame CJ Walker to Reginald F. Lewis and giving circles ─ Black people have been fiercely committed to supporting Black families and communities – even when we have very little to give. The “Village” has been defined as narrowly as an immediate family, as wide as a region or as far away as Oprah’s commitment to African girls a continent away. Philanthropic giving can be a lifeline that can make a world of difference for one person, that village or millions. WE create the legacy we want through our time, talents, treasures and testimonies. Today, we will hear how some philanthropic leaders are leveraging their personal resources to make a difference for others.
