Position Overview

Arnold Ventures’ Advocacy helps the organization’s programmatic teams bring the findings of new research into the policymaking process with a goal of achieving sustainable legislative reform. The Advocacy team is responsible for developing and executing advocacy campaigns on the organization’s policy priorities; building, resourcing, and maintaining strategic alliances with engaged and influential state and national partners and stakeholders; and managing relationships with key state and federal policymaking officials.

Arnold Ventures’ Health Care portfolio aims to develop evidence-based policy to make health care more affordable for governments, businesses, and households. We fund work across four broad issue areas: Provider Payment Incentives, Commercial Sector Prices, Drug Prices, and Complex Care.

Reporting to the Vice President of Advocacy, Health Care, and based in Arnold Ventures’ Washington, D.C. office, the Advocacy Manager, Health Care will help develop and execute the organization’s investment and partnership strategies to advance health care policy priorities at the state level. This position will research, analyze, develop, and manage high-impact health care advocacy projects and investments at the state level for our drug pricing and commercial sector prices portfolios.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the Vice President of Advocacy, Health Care, in collaboration with the Health Care team, to build state-level advocacy campaigns that advance the organization’s health care policy priorities including drug pricing and commercial sector prices
  • Research, assess, and develop grant recommendations that are aligned with the Advocacy team’s strategies, including reviewing proposals and advising applicants on scope and budget
  • Present grant proposals to Health Care and Advocacy team members and the Arnold Ventures Board of Directors
  • Facilitate the award, management, and tracking of advocacy grants approved by the Arnold Ventures Board of Directors, which includes working with grantees and partners to develop strategic campaign plans, establish performance metrics, assist grantees in troubleshooting and overcoming project obstacles, and monitor progress and impact
  • Coordinate and facilitate collaboration across Advocacy team grantees that overlap on issue or geography to ensure maximum synergy in accomplishing goals
  • Develop content for internal and external purposes, such as funding proposals, issue briefs, research and policy summaries, and reports

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field including
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field including issue advocacy organizations, public affairs firms, or think tanks.
  • Knowledge of health care policy, industry, and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in policymaking systems and processes at the state/​regional level
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to analyze policy, research and information for strategic insights, and summarize key takeaways to diverse, nontechnical audiences
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
